I'm working my way through some negatives from the early 1940s. Most are 120/620, that is about 60mm wide and 8, 12 or 16 on a spool. Some however are on film that is 70mm wide with an actual image of 63mm x 118mm (just about a modern 16:9). I'm sure it's roll film as the single exposures are cut with scissors and not very square. Can anyone advise me what the format is and educate us on old formats?

I remember reading somewhere about 70mm film loaded into giant versions of 35mm cassettes to use in special backs for graflex? or other cameras-also poss aerial survey cameras-I have some 40's/50's photo handbooks I'll check 'em and see if they mention it
And 616 apparently-and loaded in bulk magazines up to 100' in length, though Hasselblads coud take 15' in a special back. The exact format of the negative probably depended more on the camera it was used in. Apparently favoured for repetitive jobs such as school photographs!
