{The Home Secretary} added: 'As you are aware, counter-terrorism laws were not designed nor intended to stop people taking photographs and the Home Office is working towards providing further clarification both for the public and those involved in its enforcement.'
So, add another to the vast pile of badly drafted legislation brought in by this useless shower.

It was also reported yesterday that the police are stopping people under anti-terrorism laws with the aim of maintaining a "racial balance" - presumably PC speak for we know that in the current situation the most likely suspects are muslims, just as during the IRA campaign the suspects would be Irish, but we can't target them because it would look like victimising. I wonder if they do similar when targeting white racists, by picking up sundry West Indians, Pakistanis and so on.

To be fair, if you read it I don't think it is badly drafted - I think it's hard to read it in any other way than Carlile does. What it is is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. I think the Public Administration Select Committee have struck the nail squarely on the head on all fronts.

Agreed.

Not quite ... we need ministers who think rather than react. The current political system does not encourage this attribute, in fact quite the reverse - we'd probably do better by appointing a random bunch of the underage, the unemployable and the senile.

Well, the government managed to get the last two criteria.
