    Will this require multi-segment metering?

Given the general lack of posts in the comments part of the monthly comps compared to the pic entries, I'd have thought a bit of banter in this thread was a good thing! After all, this is all a bit of fun, no?

    Straw poll from the contributors?

The monthly competition isn't a bit of fun then? My mistake - I guess it's not worth bothering contributing to anymore then.

That's entirely up to you but what we don't want is for the genuine 'comment' regarding the submissions been lost amid a sea of 'banter'. Simple as that.

If you want to go 'off topic' then start a thread in The Lounge and do it there.

I must admit I read it along those lines, as I see it the idea being that an orange (the fruit) needs to be in the picture somewhere, not something that is coloured orange.

Yes, the theme does rather require the presence of an actual orange fruity thing like what they grow on trees in hot places.

If any of the first four feel they were misled in any way (by not actually reading the bleedin' brief) I'll consent to them re-entering via a PM to me. Oh, and £5 to cover administration costs.

I'll change mine and PM the mods, I have an Idea, but I don't have extension tubes for my DSLR, I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way, even though even I would rather not.

I wish I had Gwen Stefani to pose with one like in the Don't Speak video

There is an actual orange in my picture - it is under the wrapper and I felt that the wrapper for the Blood Orange was such an integral part of the whole package that it would work - oh well will have to think on...

thanks for the opportunity to repost another pic Damien

I think that its the challenge of taking a common object and making it different rather than a concept, so i think its an orange over orange

    Re: July09 comments “An orange”

Given this comp is in fact for fun despite posts to the contray, I spent the morning with an orange and various implements of death, including an air rifle, meat cleaver, hammer and various knives. You can see the results over here: http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/martypg/AnOrange#

I used three different cameras, my Fujifilm S2 Pro, Nikon D80 and Canon A420.

Working a hammer in one hand, trying to hit an orange with it, whilst operating my SLR in the other proved a little tricky. In the end I went with one I'd done with the gorillapod and a compact camera - an interesting morning

    Where did you get yours?

Did you get them in just for your photo shoot, or could you just grab one from the bowl?

I've tried Asda twice, and then gone to Sainsburys today to get some that look OK and were the right sort of size for what I wanted.

I don't normally get oranges - they were more than I thought!

Yer - I wasn't going to do it this weekend, but thought that a few people might be looking at the same thing so I needed to get in there first!
