FRIPN. Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Steve, my initial reaction is that it is likely to function but doubt it would be any good, there is not enough information to inform you of which type of flash functionality it has, I would presume basic TTL, whereas any alpha requires ADI flash capability, remember that Sony revamped the Minolta flashes and have brought out a completely new one for the 900 (need to start saving)
The box states 'ring light'. I'd suspect that the listing isn't totally correct and that the item outputs continuous, and fairly low power, light.there is not enough information to inform you of which type of flash functionality it has

Aye, I suspect it's a ring of LEDs rather than a flash with a bulb. Fine on a compact with no hotshoe if you've no other choice but not something that's likely to be as useful as a ringflash.
Can you get the Sigma ringflash in Sony fit? It has loads of functionality and is, IIRC, cheaper than the likes of the Canon one I have. Marumi do an even cheaper but far more basic ringflash...about £100 IIRC. Again, no idea if it can fit on Sony DSLRs but may be worth a look.
