    non-Canon batteries

Have just purchased EOS 1000D (body only) as first DSLR having previously owned EOS 1000F (so I had the lenses already).

I like to have a spare battery but at £33 for a Canon version I was wondering if there was any opinion regarding more cost effective batteries produced by other manufacturers (a quick glance at Amazon reveals a plethora available at around £8 - £12

I'd also recommend 7dayshop for the batteries. I have 4 and they work fine. Be careful with the hidden postage (or in small font) on the Amazon Marketplace sellers.

(they can be a little slow to dispatch though)

Thanks for the advice so far. I was concerned that I might get shot down in flames for considering cheap alternatives.

From what I've read elsewhere different batteries will provide less life per charg and as the 7dayshop items (albeit at a bargain price) are spec'd at 800 mAh and the Canon (and other generic replacements) at 1080 mAh, I reckon you might get 25% more out of some other brands (but these things aren't that scientific from what I can gather).

But if I can get 2 batteries for the price of 1 that each last 25% less, I reckon I could have a result.

I have found both Hahnel and Ansmann batteries reliable.

On here it's the reverse! I think we all like our Camera brands, but hate the accessory prices.
