Hi guys. I just set up my flickr page yesterday.
I admit they are all not WOW photos but they were all taken when i had little experience and only a kit lens.
Not looking for critique but rather just introducing myself and hope you guys take a look. haha

Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't worry about what the kit lens can and can't do for now. Hell, some of the people on here have some very "crap" cameras (yeah, that's you Barney! ...kidding). No, seriously though...learn the ropes...keep snapping...and keep posting photos on here!

hahahaha. yeah i gotta agree. Nikon wins every time.

My first shot at flower photography with a kit lens is now coming on. Uploading at the mo. I really could do with £1000 to get me some heavy glass.

Hi Jonty,

Just been looking at your flower photos. Nice, but you need to think about the position of the flower in the photo.

On several of them you've cut off bits of the flower or the background behind the flower is so busy that it detracts from the flower itself.

It's all practice

Today was the first time I've ever shot flowers. It was fun so the advice will come in very handy. Thanks

The lower the number, the larger the aperture, meaning that the depth of field will be shallower. You need to weigh up using a low enough apeture to blur the background sufficiently, with a hgih enough one to keep all the parts of the subject that you want sharp in focus.

Precisely and the closer you get to the subject the less depth of field you get. This makes the 'stop down' button/lever on your camera invaluable.
