    Filter suggestions please!!!

    Hello,

Im looking to start using ND Grad filters in my landscape shots and the more I look into it, the more confused im getting.

Im fairly new to photography so have an entry level Nikon D60. The standard kit lens I am using has a 52mm thread. I have the standard UV and Circ Polarising screw in Hoya filters for this. I hope to be able to use the rectangular filters and keep hitting a brick wall when I try to find how to fit them to my lens. I realise that I will need a filter holder and possibly an adapter ring as well..........??? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Nick

Lol, I was actually just reading that!!

Excellent article, and it has helped me make up my mind about brand/strength etc, but still doesnt really help me with regards to actually mounting them on my lens.....unless ive completely missed something

I use Cokin. Other similar gear is available from other manufacturers. Have a look at www.cokin.co.uk. Basically you do this, using the adapter ring and filter holder.Different thread sized rings are available for different lenses. You can then slide the filter up or down to get the right effect. Various designs, eg P Series, are available from Cokin. Have a good read through the stuff on their site - it will hold good regardless of which manufacturer you go for.
    Canon made me do it.

I use Cokin ones as well. If I had money to burn I'd get Lee ones but Cokin do me fine for what I want.

The filter holder is a standard size that works with most lenses, you will need to order a 52mm adapter ring which screws on to the front of your lens and the holder just slides onto it, so you need a different size adapter ring for each lens with a different size filter thread, hope this helps.
