A review which might be of help here.

For similar money, you might also like to consider an entry level DSLR.

What do you want to use it for?

I bought the sp-570uz a couple of months back. Felt more solid than the Nikon alternative (odd, Nikon used to be so tough). Preferred it to the Lumix alternative. Canon's SX10 or whatever was tanklike but a bit over my budget. The Oly feels properly screwed together.

You get what you pay for. JPGs straight from the camera are very nice, but there's very little scope for cropping, what you see is what you get. The zoom is remarkable IMHO, but FWIW I have a suspicion that a DSLR with a high quality zoom of half the focal length might deliver the results when they're cropped. But the SP series are nice cameras, good value I think.

I'd go to a store and handle the goods before buying.

(For that money I'd invest in an E4** and start building a system. But I bought the SP for 'er indoors, it takes nice pictures of people and butterflies and such like!)
