    excel question

    Hi all you excel gurus

been working on a spreadsheet today and a feature i have never seen before neither can i fathom out you do it but extremley useful

    will try to explain

first colum list of names, other colums rows got info and you have to slide across to the right so the names in first colum go out of sight, but in this spread sheet today the colum with the names stayed static, like the colums went behind it
how do you make the first colum stay in view

hopefully i have explained so that you understand

    Re: excel question

I'm not sure whether you want to see the columns or not. Select the cell to the right of and below the range you want to stay in view. Select "Window - Freeze Panes". This will mean that those rows above and to the left of your selected cell will remain in view as you scroll around the spreadsheet. Make the same menu selection to un-freeze the panes.

Just to add, to freeze only column/s, highlight the entire column immeditelt to the right, to freeze only row/s highlight the row immediately below, and to freeze a combination of rows and cloumns then click on the single cell that ofrms the inside corner at the intersection of the rows and columns you want to freeze.
