Memo to self - when scanning

When scanning slides in an Epson flatbed, don't forget to remove the white backing sheet provided for reflective subjects. If you don't, the auto-exposure clicks in and the Preview window takes ages to appear, and even then it's nearly all black - apart from some electrical noise streaks. On my 3rd. attempt(!!) I eventually noticed the white backing sheet still in place...

Funny how it can take so long to spot the obvious, I bet it's been the cause of a few warranty claims too Still could be worse, you could have posted a 'My Epson scanner has stopped working' thread.

Same advice applies to users of some Canon flatbeds with built in film hoods.

Not that I've ever done it myself.

That is very interesting. I have a dedicated film scanner so I use that for trannies, but I had not realised that the white lid was removeable on the flat bed.

    Thanks.
