editing software and making your own watermark

Two questions really, firstly what would you say is the best value for money editing software? I've recently been trying out corel paint shop pro X2 which is about £80, is there anything better for similar/a bit more money?

secondly, how do you make your own watermark i.e. "ABC photographics" at the bottom of a photo? I want a nice simple one, perhaps a pin stripe across the bottom and a name, also can this be saved on it's own so that you can apply it to multiple photos quickly without having to make it up each time?

    thanks.

A search on t'internet will bring up numerous tutorials on adding watermarks. Here's one for Photoshop Elements. I'm not sure if this particular method can be used for batch processing photos. I use PSE 6. This is now superceded by PSE 7, you can download a free trial from here. It costs around £50 to buy from Amazon at the moment.

Elements is certainly the best for budget PC work unless you need the full Photoshop facilities (few do).

You could always give the gimp a try and see if you like it. It's completely free to download and use so you've nothing to loose if you don't like it. There are Windows, Mac and Linux versions as well.
