I took the E420 up Snowdon on Saturday. I had to be ruthless on weight, not being as fit as I'd like, even settling for the pancake instead of my short zoom in the interests of keeping weight to an absolute minimum. My strategy worked - and both me and E420 made it to the summit! Phew, what a climb! While at the summit, a freezing cloud suddenly closed in and covered the top of the mountain. It was a wonderful experience and the E420 earned its keep!

Lovely reminders!
I climbed Snowdon in my teens, gave up when I was in my unfit 40s and got to the top by train in my mid 50s. I now respect my father's fitness abilities much more as he was with me in my teens, and he must have been in his 40s when we made it to the top. I don't think he drove as much as I do, and he cycled much more.

I find the 25mm excellent for that kind of situation, though I usually take a polarizing filter to help with the harsh light.

I'll be camping in Snowdonia in a couple of weeks, planning on a trip up Snowdon, but as we're taking my 3yo daughter we'll take the lazy mans route (i.e. the train)! Probably a good job as I want to take the e-3, 12-60mm, tripod etc.
Saying that, I think might get up early one morning and got for a trek up there myself, maybe not to the summit but it would be nice to get somewhere scenic for just after sunrise!

Chicken. Your shot seems to be from near the top of the PYG track. The adventureous do Crib Goch. The long suffering do the Watkin, the masochistic walk all the boring way from Llamberis. The PYG track is for wimps.
To put things in perspective, my Pentax SP2 with 28,50,105mm and me went to 17058 feet once and to 19340ft several times. I suspect that there will be several members of the forum that can beat that. I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone hadn't taken a 5x4 to the summit of Everest.
Well, I respect anyone who climbs up mountains; even more so when carrying gear as well. Yes, I was a bit of a wimp really but I was a little unsure about my fitness so I took the longer Llanberis path. I was very pleased to be able to get to the summit. The Pyg track looked a bit of a, well....pig to be honest! I think I'll leave Crib Goch to the more adventureous! If I was going to take a 5x4, I would definitely be on the train!!!Chicken. Yes, a polarizing filter is a good idea, but I have yet to get an adapter for the pancake's rather uncommon 43mm filter thread. I enjoyed your picture on Great Pinseat.I find the 25mm excellent for that kind of situation, though I usually take a polarizing filter to help with the harsh light.

Glad the pics gave you lovely reminders. I'm in my mid forties and I have to confess, my poor knees were groaning a lot on the way down and I was worried I had done lasting damage. Luckily, they recovered the next day!Lovely reminders!

Good luck if you do decide to climb. The train is a lovely experience also so I'm sure you'll be coming back with some great pics either way. Definitely - I carried one only part way up to photograph the old mine buildings in Cwn Dyli, and it damn near killed me!If I was going to take a 5x4, I would definitely be on the train!!!
