Paper rollers in Epson R220 printer

I've been very satisfied using an Epson R220 for the last few years. I bought it for its CD/DVD printing facility, and soon found that it was at least as good as my Epson 1270 (apart from being limited to A4). I'm now finding that the paper rollers are no longer gripping slightly thicker stock such as envelopes, and whilst I could buy a replacement, I'm a bit reluctant as last January I laid in quite a stock of ink. (Genuine Epson, and worth more than a new printer.)

Has anyone found a sure fire way of restoring the rollers to their original grip? They seem to be well buried, and it's not clear at this stage whether their grooves are simply full of paper dressing (Fuller's earth?) or whether their ribs have been smoothed down to a near useless level.

Any guidance appreciated. (This printer does not appear to have a paper thickness lever.)

Try scrubbing the rollers with isopropyl alcohol.
