Kits lenses and the DAs

I have done a series of personal tests here on my DA 15 35 70 and kit lenses
They have turned out quite inteestingly but are not scientific. If anyone wants to criticize my methods, feel free!

Interesting thanks, but I don't think you've given details of which kit lenses you used. I'm assuming they're the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and the 50-200mm F4-5.6?

And for the 18-55, is it the original 18-55 3.5-5.6 DA AL or the newer AL II version with higher resolution, introduced for the K20D?

Yes, the 18-55 and the 50-200mm and the original versions.

That's very interesting. Did you take several frames for each setting, refocussing each time? If you did, the result for the 15mm is very surprising indeed. (Although DPR did test it and found it less than stellar wide open)

The 70mm looks very impressive and the kit lens can hold its own very well. It's fantastic value and more and more people are starting to recognise that it's an excellent lens.

If you mean the kit 18-55 John, I would only say that they must be variable. I have a mark 2 version, which came with the K20D and it is dissapointingly soft. I have considered asking the supplier to exchange it, but I am not sure where I stand on that? Otherwise it is going on Ebay.

Does anyone else have a soft one of these, or am I just unlucky?

We've had a total of 6 kit 18-55mm lenses so far, four Mk I and two Mk II. The Mk II ones are slightly better, but overall they have all been pretty much identical.

However, there will certainly be below par samples as well I'm sure.
