    Build Quality of FZ28

    Hi All,

I'm having a bit of a nightmare at the moment trying to decide whether to buy a Nikon D40 or FZ28...

I kind of know the pros and cons of both but one of the issues I have with the FZ28 is its build quality...it feels very poorly built to me (esp compared to the D40).

Has anyone had any durability problems with the FZ28? I wonder about how long some of the controls will last (particualrly the joystick thingie on the back!)

I really hope someone can put me out of my misery!!

    Kind Regards,

    Richard

I think you've answered your own question, TBH. If you're in doubt, you'll never be totally happy - so get the Nikon and be happy.

That makes kind of sense although I'm also not totally convinced that 18-55mm on the Nikon will give me enough versatility...this, for me, is the main advantage of the FZ28 over every DSLR....unless of course I'm prepared to spend lots of money on extra lenses....not to mention the added weight....

    decisions decisions....

I have the Panasonic FZ8, a predecessor of the FZ28. Now I also have a Pentax K10D dSLR and a Canon Ixus compact. However it's the FZ8 that gets the most use. I like hills and mountains, and the FZ8 has been with me throughout my rambles in Snowdonia, The Lake District, The Peak District, The Austrian Tirol, The Swiss Alps, Bavaria....etc..etc... and it's never let me down once.
Assuming the FZ28 is as good, I recommend it..!!

I have been using the FZ28 for three months now, my camera choice was always going to be a compromise, I needed versatility and a long lens.
I need not have worried, the performance of the FZ28 is excellent and represents very good value for money..

    Try to get a D40 with Nikon's 18-105 VR lens ;-)
Too many cameras, too many lenses.......
