    RC-1 Remote control

Can anyone confirm whether these should work with a 50D? Mine (which I used with a 400D) won't. Before I buy new batteries it would be helpful to know if it's compatible or not. If not, what is it's replacement?

Cheers Bob. Did look at this site but gave up when the 50D wasn't given a mention in the Accessories download

According to this somewhat out of date catalogue the RC-1 was not compatible with the 40D, nor indeed any body in the xxD/Dxx series, so I think we can reasonably conclude it's equally incompatible with the 50D...

Aye, the remote control for my 300D didn't work with my 40D...had to use the one for my EOS 3 with the 40D. Can't remember the remote model numbers though!

It's only the connector, the one & two figure cameras use a proprietary 3 pin connector, the three & four figure cameras use a submicro stereo jack.

You should be able to obtain adapters from the usual Chinese eBay sources.

    Re: RC-1 Remote control

Er, no. The RC-1 is an IR remote control, not one of the wired ones. It's not compatible with any of the double-digit digitals, I believe, although it is compatible with the 5D Mk II.

I now use a Hahnel wireless thingy, which operates over much greater distances and from behind the camera, but costs a fair bit more, too.

Thanks for the responses. After researching it seems there is no equivalent piece of kit for the 50D so I'm also looking at a "Hahnel wireless thingy" Only prob with this design is that I won't be able to use my hotshoe spirit level.

That's a good price for it! I keep meaning to write a review of the thing - it's an impressive bit of kit. Feels a little cheap, but works faultessly.
