FAQ: Safe trigger voltages for EOS SLRs

Info here courtesy of Chuck Westfall.

It seems that ALL Canon DSLRs are safe up to 250 volts, EXCEPT the D30, D60, 10D and 300D, which are only safe up to 6 volts. The film EOSs are safe up to 6 volts, EXCEPT the 1, 1N, 1V and 3, which are all safe up to 250 volts.

Good stuff Nick! I also found voltage tests for various flashguns on another site and the flash I have, a Cobra 440AF, has a voltage of 3.6V. But altho its safe on the 10D I've been informed on here that it doesnt work on that camera, and I've not tried.

I came into this world with nothing, and I still have most of it left!

Hi all . I wanted to use a very old Prinz flasgun on my 5D . Being worried about the voltage I bought a cheap trigger unit . Cost me about £20,is well made and works fine and also gives me the opertunity to place the flash off camera . Rex . P.S. It's branded 'ishoot'

You can use any flashgun or mains studio flash if you buy the Wein Safe Sync, it fits in the camera hot shoe and reduces the voltage of any electronic flash to less than six volts http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...KMGKhQeG3dGjBg
