dumb question but is a k200d a k2000d

The reason im asking is that ive got a k200d and was looking at the pentax site to see if there were any firmware updates.

I could pnly find the k2000d listed

Now apologies if im having a senior moment but is it the same camera or is it that penatx haven't released any updates for the 200 ?

The K2000 (known as the K-m in some countries) is a totally different camera model to the K200D, designed to be smaller and lighter. Amongst other differences, it doesn't have the top LCD and has only 3 AF points.

Any firmware updates for the K2000 would be totally incompatible, and if you could install them, would result in a dead camera.

I speak from experience - when working as a software engineer for an industrial instrumentation company years ago, I accidentally loaded a plant monitoring system with the code for a gas analyser - the field engineer wasn't happy!

Hi D_C_N,

Firstly, welcome to the AP Forums

Secondly, as mentioned above, they are two entirely different cameras aside from the
AA batteries and the numbers (200D / 2000D). I have a pair of K200D's and
I sold quite a few K200/DA 18-250 combos last summer, fall and winter

So far, no K-m's

Cheers

Jack

A good friend of mine over in the US was raving about this White Pentax K2000 just after they were released.

At first I thought perhaps another new model but pictures did confirm it was definately a Pentax Km, just not sure why the folks at Pentax would change the model number for the UK market !?!?!?!?

Hi Mark,

Not only with Pentax (Digital) but with Pentax film -- Canada had the PZ-1 and then the Z1-P where
as the US had Z1-p and PZ-1P and for Nikon film camera's -- Canada & UK had the F90, F90X, 801 and 801s and the 601 (amongst others) and the US had the N90, N90S, 8008, 8008s and the 6006 . This was so they could differentiate for warranty repairs along with
marketing Then, there is the Canon Compact DigiCams -- over in North America they have
the 'SD series cameras" where as in UK/Europe, they are known as the Ixus series of cameras

Cheers,

Cool, really helps out the consumer (NOT) LOL

Never could work out why stuff like this was ever done

Oh well, you learn something new everyday (not always useful, but still new ... he he he). Makes perfect sense to Pentax who know they're the same kit, shame it's not that clear for poor Joe on the street wanting to do a simple thing like a firmware update

So to sum up, the K2000 IS the same as the K-m (just incase you were still wondering!!!!!) HURRAH
