Hi everybody.
I've already bought a Hoya circular polarizer, to use with my Samsung gx-10. Sometimes, reading the magazine, you say that it can helps in landscapes, photos of trees and nature because it saturates colors, .....
I'm trying to use it but ....nothing is working well! The polarizer is ok (it works [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] ) but the problem it's me.
Is there anyone who can help me explaining how to use it at the best?

Perhaps you could clarify exactly what's wrong?
In the meantime I will point out that polarisers work best when the lens is at or close to 90° to the sun. If you are pointing directly toward or away from the sun the effect is negligible to non existent. Assuming you are at a reasonable angle to the sun rotate the polariser while looking through the finder. Skies should change through various shades of blue and clouds become more contrasted against the blue, reflections (in water especially) are weakened and the colour intensity of leaves, grass and other objects are increased - though this may be a more subtle effect than seen in the sky.

And just to add to what Nigel says, if you are using a wide angle lens at 90 degrees to the direction of the sun you can end up with blue skys graded horizontally which looks odd.

Perhaps we could sort the help section into boring questions and interesting, never been asked before questions. Would that be any better for you?
Apart from the cameras the lenses the tripods the filters the various types of film the developers. The one thing which is really important is BOOKS. I bet if one googled polarizers all the info one would need will be there. I had a problem recently posted a question on here. I then googled my query got an answer and had enough time to come back here and remove the post. Thus saving the good people on this forum the time and research I should be doing myself. I'm not the only person on here that feels the same about these type of queries. The esteemed David Steel has posted on all the catergories I'm talking about. Yet we still get the queries. I'm waiting for the ultimate query. I've bought my first dslr what is the best memory card.

You could always try asking AP forum mods to prevent "newbies" from turning up all the time.Yes it's because it's another question that's too often asked on here and I'm bored of it, so there you go
If this is to no avail, an alternative could be to ask them to prevent "oldies" from looking at "newbies' posts!.
One of the two solutions should sort the problem.
There is always a third alternative -if the worst comes to the worst- which is to request that the newbies that take part to the forum be newbies that "know their stuff".

Benji, The Mods shouldn't have to do anything of the sort. If Frank1 doesn't like reading questions from Newbies, then he shouldn't read them! Nobody is forcing him to read them.
And if he dislikes them do much, why does he bother to answer them with sarcastic comments!

I once was a regular buyer of the A P until I realised I was reading the same artical over and over and I stopped buying it. You can only read so much about landscapes and how to capture them well. It's the same with this and any other forum. So maybe it's time for me to move on from here. Yeah go on Frank you miserable **** do I hear you say. The only problem is when I stopped reading the A P it felt like I gave up being a catholic and at any minute I'd be struck down. Well I survived both those moments. Not having the A P forum will it just be enough to push me over. God have mercy on his sarcastic soul.
Ps it was sarcasm with a smile. I am now off to read a BOOK on good manners.
