Thanks for the comment Daft Biker. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to finding the proper names for things such as this. Interestingly, this particular one was French.
Great photo on your flickr page by the way, much closer than I could ever get.![]()

Sorted. Let me know if you need any help with a 600 pixel and <100KB version. There's some help here but feel free to ask questionsSorry for file size in my submission being slightly too big. - URL for smaller image below.

Neil, if you add a tag of springtail to your pic on Flickr and add it to this group Frans might be able to tell you what it is. A geotag or a note of the location in the description might also help....I wouldn't be surprised if he could ID it! Am sure others in the group will enjoy the pic too![]()

Not Hornby, IIRC. Might be MiniTrix or Fleischmann. Fairly sure it's a German company. If anyone's interested and hasn't worked it out, they're in "N" gauge so he's probably sporting 1mm...

Hi All
So far the well balanced 'Mesmerised' frog and whip goby shots are doing it for me. The goby has a great contrast of textures and nice balance of colours, and considering the technical complications of underwater photography is a fine shot. There are lots of other eyecatching shots and innovative ideas too. Great stuff!
Cheers

Tom that is a superb shot IMO, you must have the patience of a saint!
I downloaded your photo to have a look at the EXIF data but there was none there
Any chance of a bit of info?

Hi S1mon
Thanks for the nice comments. I shot the hoverfly handheld on a Nikon D300 with a Sigma 105 1:2.8D macro lens in sunlight. I used a Nikon SB-21 ring flash and adjusted the power output manually to get the right exposure for the focal distance and camera settings (1/250th at f13, ISO 200). That's essentially trial-and-error. I worked on the RAW image in Lightroom a little bit to boost the saturation and bring down the highlights - but the fiddling was pretty minor really. I took a couple of other similar pictures on the same day (and a bunch of other insects wandering around on the plants), but this was the best ;-) A morning sitting in the sun was well spent I think.
Cheers

sorry, my photo for april was deleted so there's a gap I'm afraid, but I've re-submitted with another shot. If that's ok.![]()
Hi Jeanette...all sorted now. Ideally just ask us to change the original post to show the new image and title rather than post again but it's been no problem this time. I deleted your first entry but if somebody had replied to it instead of Suiya's opening post their image would have been deleted too.sorry, my photo for april was deleted so there's a gap I'm afraid, but I've re-submitted with another shot. Some great photos as usual but my votes would go MartyG,JonMcGovern, alxxx,OneTen and Ephemeral's. I haven't had the time to post this time, but hey, I avoided a beatin'.![]()
