My initial reaction is "so what?", but it does seem to show that Olympus are intending to keep this product line going despite both the E-620 to squeeze it from above, and MFT to squeeze it from below, which is interesting.

My initial reaction was much the same - doesn't seem to add much, although encouraging that the E4XX line appears to live on. I'd assume it will be fairly cheap, fairly quickly as otherwise the 620 looks a much better proposition if the prices are anywhere close...
Although it is just a freshen up for that model it does not suprise me, as this is actually the best selling dslr for Olympus at the moment.![]()
Keep on snapping and catch the moment if you can.
Paul
Interesting! I suppose there is no harm in freshening up a model. It will be interesting to see whether the TruePic III+ processor makes any difference to image quality with what I assume is the same sensor as the E-420.
What does baffle me somewhat is the decision to name it the E-450. Does this mean the ultimate demise of the E-5xx series? In my opinion that would be a shame because I find the E-4xx cameras a little too small.
There were rumours emanating from the far east some weeks ago saying that Oly would announce 5 new E-System cameras this year. Well, we've had 3 so far...............![]()

I don't know - art filters for soft focus and darkened corners now, I suppose Oly did not want to be left out but are we to expect one for colour fringing next?![]()
Ah ha; so that's where you've been getting your info from. Must be costing you a fortune in air fares!...There were rumours emanating from the far east some weeks ago saying that Oly would announce 5 new E-System cameras this year...
I have recklessly nailed my reputation on the E4 being with us by the 2nd May here. The poll verdict so far is that 60% believe all sense has left my body!...Well, we've had 3 so far...............![]()
I reckon I'm still in with a dog's chance of being correct!

How about one for adding noise, just in case you find yourself without a ND filter & are forced to shoot below ISO 400?I don't know - art filters for soft focus and darkened corners now, I suppose Oly did not want to be left out but are we to expect one for colour fringing next?![]()

If you're not living on the edge, you're wasting space
I don't think it adds anything to the E-420 that would make owners want to change.
I think if it's price properly it can carry on being the Olympus best seller as the E-420 is now.
Thanks
Nick
Hi new to the forum so hello all.
Read elsewhere that e-450 will be sold exclusively on the QVC channel in USA & Canada as a discount entry into Olympus brand.More brand awareness and more people onto upgrade path.
In present climate I think this makes good marketing sense to get the name out there.
Cheers Iain
If its turns out to be true will it happen in the uk? tho on our QVC "discount" would probably mean getting a free memory card![]()
My immediate reaction about the E4 was that the earliest it would be announced will be later this year because Oly would need to improve IQ with the new sensor. Some of you may know that I did a study some weeks ago comparing, amongst other things, the resolution of the E-3 and E-30 and could find no discernable difference (which surprised me a tad). As it happens, I may inadvertently been a bit harsh on the E-30. I've just read the review of it on DPReview and noticed that the DPR team discovered a flaw in ACR5.3 which meant that E-30 orf files were not developed properly. Adobe have recognised the problem and are fixing it! DPR had to resort to using Capture One to develop orf files for comparison with the D300 and EOS50D. I've just done a very quick and dirty test and compared the orfs developed by Lightroom 2.3 (acr 5.3) and Oly Master. In terms of resolution, the results from Oly master appear to be distinctly better. If I get time I may rerun some of my tests for comfirmation. This may also partly explain why some reviews of the E-30 have been somewhat scathing whereas others have been somewhat positive.Ah ha; so that's where you've been getting your info from. Anyway, the net result of this is that perhaps oly have less work to do on IQ in the new E-4 than I thought. You never know Rob, you might be right about May![]()

As I understand it, the exclusive QVC period is for North America only. I guess QVC is a much bigger thing over the pond! This probably explains why Oly have added some art filters and a better screen. It's purely a marketing exercise to entice our colonial friends to upgrade to a dslr. Still, it may work out to be a cunning plan. Good luck to themIf its turns out to be true will it happen in the uk? tho on our QVC "discount" would probably mean getting a free memory card![]()

According to the missus (who knows about these things), if the e-450 is sold on QVC USA it will probably be released as a 'todays special value'. Apparently this usually means it will probably be released in the uk on the same terms, at a one day discount possibly on their easypay system, ie a number of months interest free credit. Apparently QVC USA has a similar arrangement with the UK operation as ASDA/Walmart- they buy a trillion of the things and share stock with the UK
Apparently the E-450 with twin lens kit went on sale on QVC in the USA today (yesterday?) for $599. Seems that the 3,400 were sold (at least claimed to be sold) in the first 12 hours. Apparently the figure for 24 hours is over 6,000, but I have not been able to find an exact count.Apparently the E-450 with twin lens kit went on sale on QVC in the USA today (yesterday?) for $599.
