Which winder & grip for R5?

I wonder - does anyone know about the winder and handgrip options available (used no doubt) for the R5 please? I'd prefer a vertical release if possible.

    Thanks, Staro

    Good morning Adam,
Motor winder R cat no. 14208 is identical to motor winder R4 (14282) but has three gold contacts between the release button and the tripod bush to link with the electronic hand grip; otherwise both will work on your R5. With batteries it will add 14 ounces to the weight of the camera.
Motor drive R (14310) will add 22 ounces, again three contacts the difference between this and Motor drive R4 (14292).
Handgrip R (14308) works only with the later drives as the connection is electronic; on the earlier Handgrip R4 (14283) the connection is mechanical.
The newer grip has release buttons for both portrait and landscape orientation.
Ffordes have the earlier model here Winder R4 + grip £45.00
    Hope this helps

    Thanks Peter,

Gee, 22oz is pretty hefty .... at least by my standards. So 14310 + 14308 is the latest for the R5/6 body. Well, I know where there may be a 14310 (but the shop has temporarily lost it) though I haven't seen many grips of any age. Nothing with Leica is ever simple!

    Cheers. A.

Talking of unique, how many other makers would fit a small wheel into the lens hoods of wide angle lenses the sole purpose of which was to turn polarising filters to their optimum position?

Great idea. I love it ..... except that the Series polarizers were/are not only very expensive, but extremely hard to find nowadays.

And other manufacturers managed something similar by simply leaving a slot cut out of their hoods...

Now then Nick, you know that the simple/common sense approach would never do for Leica.

I think the 14308 grip is no longer a "current" item (though that's rather after the fact now!). The most recent grip is 14317, which was designed for the slightly taller R7 camera, but is perfectly fine. SH Photo in Germany has all remaining new stock of R gear at discounted prices. Last time I looked they had both drive and grip as a set for €249 or both items separately. Could be the best bet for a grip; like you say they're not as common as drives on the used market.

Thanks for the info. I suppose €249 is cheaper than a new thumb!
