... would that be Jason of Justmono, who is clearly not a number?
Indeed it is Clive - see the subtle way I am reminding you- I had the honour of 'doing' his nuptials for him and young Eirlys at Portmeirion, (He was too tight to shell out for the full Italian experience

)
Just BTW there is an on-line presence here that you may want to think about. I have one in there but your 'L' back catalogue is huge and would really look good in that company.
This is mine - yours will knock the socks off it

Some great shots in LFI, Peter: I had never heard of it before. I'm certainly looking forward to getting out the M6 and my brace of summicrons again. I do have over 30 rolls of Kodak HIE left. I must look out previous efforts. Though I might go for colour like your shot.
I thought I was a bit harsh on the M8s in the other thread. I had this guy from Holland who bought my ASPH 24 M and who sent me some superb shots taken with my lens on his M8. As usual a smaller sensor with an awesome lens produces a wonderful result.
But the D3 has 'spoiled' me with its ISO capability. My kind of photography demands highish ISOs these days, and, as you know, a tripod is anathema to me.
I don't think you were harsh at all, just honest (at that time and that place anyway). I am heading the '8' way myself to be honest. The functions available are more to my needs than anything else and the limited ISO is what we were bought up on anyway. No, to be honest, it will be a relief to settle into a small system and it will meet all my foreseeable needs.
I well remember your comments on small sensor/prime lens and that was factored into my thinking; there just ain't any lenses better - anywhere.
Maybe,'these days' is the key phrase there? I don't have a problem with a tri/monopod and on the odd occasion that one is needed then I will go for it.My kind of photography demands highish ISOs these days, and, as you know, a tripod is anathema to me.
I am working on the CD at the moment and re-scanning some older stuff - quite good fun in a slower paced way![]()

One thing I used to notice in my scans of frames taken with the 24 ASPH was how much deterioration was present towards the outside of those images (the scans being performed on a Nikon 9000).
This was in a lens I had always rated as perhaps the finest lens I had ever owned. I too am still convinced that a great FF prime on a smaller sensor gives the best possible image.
So it's horses for courses I guess, Peter. And I don't think you will get much better in image quality than with a great prime on an M8 at ISO 400 or below.
The shot below was taken in brilliant light at ISO 500, but it did give me 1/500 at f/14 which is where I now like to be(24-70 f/2.8 at 70mm on a D3)

Indeed, horses for courses Clive
Great location, great shot and a great wiggle in the walk (if I may be so bold)![]()

Now I well remember you lusting to be at f/1 or at worst f/1.41/500 at f/14 which is where I now like to be
So fashions change and our own personal perspective changes - the photographic process meets all our needs - one horse, many, many courses![]()

I did have a problem with focus with the Noctilux, Peter. But, of course, I didn't have a tripod (which wouldn't have made much difference with focussing on the eye). My percentage failure rate was, in the end, too great to warrant retention of the lens.
It looked pretty impressive on camera, but that was the best thing about it, apart from getting the same price second hand that I paid for it new.
Currently I employ a 50mm f/1.2 Nikkor wide open, but with a DSLR I work on a percentage basis that one shot will get it right.
Now I like fast shutter speeds and great depth of field, ...........some of the time![]()

A little quote from you from July 2002 - my how time flies
Another time, another course - slightly more Epsom than UttoxeterOh dear, I've been a bad boy again - very very bad. But when you hear that only 3 have come into the country in the last few months (actually, 3 days ago), and there will be no more for several months, and there is only one left - well - .

It's funny - I can't remember where I bought the Noctilux from, Peter.
But every Leicaman must own a Noctilux .... once![]()
I know you had seen one at Tungs but it was either stupidly priced as SH. or his own. I always assumed C.C. as one of the few major dealers?
I think once is enough for most of them to be honest. Considering the investment the numbers who shoot regularly with it must be infinitesimally small. Too specialised I would think for all but the somnambulists. But every Leicaman must own a Noctilux .... once

Yes, the one at Tungs was second hand and it was Mr Tung's daughter who ran the shop then. She priced it higher than the new price, and I think it was Classic Camera (do they still exist?)
Yes, FF is a great leveller and lenses we think of as top drawer in Nikon land (say, the 85mm f1.4, 28mm f1.4) turn out to be not so hot if you go peering into the corners and edges.
Truth is, even if we were to get the much wished-for full-frame Leica M, there's disappointment in store if you did the same. That 24mm is a fine lens when you're using a cropped frame camera. In a FF camera, it might not impress as much.

Be these they?......and I think it was Classic Camera (do they still exist?)

That's theys, Nigel, though I see they stock a lot more than Leica now.
CC are not an official Leica dealer anymore. Involved story. not for public consumption.

Now there's a thing. There I was wandering around the forum trying to get the hang of the place when what should I come across but a photo of my own wedding.
Great shot, Peter.
And Clive: I can tell you now that even joking that you're going to declare "I am not a number - I'm a free man!" in response to the question "Do you take this woman..." doesn't go down well at all.
Jason
Remember: you're a womble.
It was a great day Jason - all things considered![]()
