    West Somerset Railway.

The West Somerset Railway are having their Spring Gala over 4 days starting this coming Thursday (29th March). Details can be found on their website HERE

Well worth a day out if you like steam engines!

Looks like a good day out - just wish I was much closer.

    Re: West Somerset Railway.

The event is/was over two weekends, with yesterday and the day before being the start of it.

Having got up at 5am, we arrived at Minehead just as the first locos were getting up steam for the first departure at 0810. At least that early, there weren't too many people about.

By 1100, the place was heaving....... with everyone jostling for posistion to get the shot!

One let down was that the engine I'd especially wanted to see (The Royal Scot) hadn't arrived, and in fact was still on a low loader somewhere on the M5. It's journey seems to have been plagued by mini disasters, as a puncture and fire on the tractor/trailer unit caused a few long delays.

As the loco itself has also been reported as having fire damage, there's still some doubt if it will be running next weekend too......

One other "star" engine was out of action with a cracked firebox. Still, with the A4 "Bittern" and West Country "Staunton" running, along with others, there should still be enough to please most....

If the weather is anything like it's been the last week or so, it should still be a great event.

Not being a proper trainspotter, my reasons for wanting to see the Royal Scot were a touch off the wall. As I said to one guy, I have loads of photos of green and black engines, but none yet of a red one!
