    Big mistake.

I made a grave error of judgement on Friday, it involved half an hour to kill and a close proximity to Richard Caplan's shop.
The conversation started quite easily with me saying that I was interested in a 'usable' RF camera, it ended up with them having to prise a M3 and collapsible 50mm Sumatorother lens from my hands as they locked up the shop.
Will power got the upper hand and I managed not to flex the plastic, but it will happen sooner rather than later I suspect.
My only doubt is that I want something to keep in my laptop bag (as well as my G9) and I would feel quite bad abusing a 50 year old camera. On the other hand, did not they make over a million of them so one less nice example is no big deal.
Your thoughts on treating / miss treating a 'classic' camera and using it as an every day tool, please ladies and gentlemen.
    Regards,

Use it, but not for knocking nails in. All those Mint++/Unused? M3s are begging to be taken out and used.

Yeah, but chuck the laptop out the bag, eh! It'd take up valuable film space.

Oh yes, and as Tim says, dump the laptop, with an M3 in your hands there will be no time to fiddle about with Email or other distractions.

Hum...............I just might have to make a detour via Piccadilly when I am in town on Monday.

Use it, but not for knocking nails in. All those Mint++/Unused? M3s are begging to be taken out and used.

I will try to look after it but my 5D looks very second hand after only 18 months. I just do not know how to use a camera and keep it looking unused, or is this a special Leica feature

Yeah, but chuck the laptop out the bag, eh! It'd take up valuable film space.

Very tempting but I kind of need the laptop to set up systems, perhaps I should just get a smaller one.

zx9 as in Nakamichi? Fine cassette deck.

As in Kawasaki zx9r, the only bike I ever bought new. I used zx9 on a couple of motoring forums years ago, saves having to remember too many user names.(My cassette deck is a very lowly Yamaha)

Go on Keith, you know you want to

Yes I do, and I don't know why I thought anyone here would try talking me out of it.

We don't, simply because we know it is a futile argument Keith. Once you have held one it is game, set and match unfortunately. You are a Leicaphile, accept it without dissent. If you deny the urge you will just be unaccountably unhappy for the rest of your life.

Good morning Tim, I agree, posts are posts and we can always (in computer speak) 'enable the WF' (Turn on the Will filter). We do seem to be attracting a few new folk in here.

    No mistake

Well Peter, I had a discussion with Nick re. originals/ copies in this thread .

Then I went to buy some film and neg. file page, I took my Bessa R with me to take some more shots with the S/H Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 I bought last week.

I returned with lots of APX400, no neg. file pages, and no Bessa having P/X'd it for a nice useable 1965 M2, it's the same age as me .

The 35mm lens came with a M adapter so I spent yesterday afternoon running off half a roll of film. I love it already, the difference between focusing the same lens on the Bessa and the M2 is stunning.

Now I need to get an adaptor for my 75mm, I know the M2 only has a 90mm mask so I guess I need a 90mm adaptor to bring up that frame line and just compose tight to the lines.

    Re: No mistake

I would say the 75mm frame is approximately half way between the 50mm and 90mm, but with a little bias towards the 90 end. Having just checked on my M7 it appears to be just a touch wider than the 90 at top and bottom, and somewhat more on the sides.

If you shuffle the frame line selector about you might be able to view both of those at the same time - this is where an M3 might have been a better initial choice as the 50mm frame is always visible. Best option would be to get an external 75mm viewfinder of course.

I just obtained a new toy myself, which means goodbye to the Canon body.

    Re: No mistake

Thanks for that Tim, I will go with the 90mm adapter for now. The M3 was ruled out because I can 'see' 35mm, 50mm always feels too tight, so a 35mm frame was important. As a walk-around set 35mm and 75mm will work, I used to use an XA (35mm) and the 75mm on the Bessa.

Definitely. One of my older standbys was a 35/90 combo (sometimes with 21). Just occasionally with that the 90mm felt a little too long.
