Just a quick question, im looking for a 50mm enlarger lens for my philips enlarger ......
does it have to be a philips make? or do most lens fit most enlargers?
I will also need a larger neg holder, are these easy to find?

Almost anything will do - there's a standard mount (the M39 screw mount - same as Leica screw thread lenses) for 50mm enlarging lenses.
Re. the negative holder, I don't know - I must admit I didn't know Philips had ever made enlargers. That might tell you something about what to expect, though.

Probably quite difficult to find nowadays, but you might be able to get thin glass, 2mm, cut to size at your local glaziers. I can remember some enlargers I used years ago having two pieces of glass hinged together with adhesive tape. Or, you could try the S/H Darkroom or Nova Darkroom....looking for a 50mm enlarger lens for my philips enlarger ......

Edit: Forgot to add that 50mm enlarger lenses are fairly common items at camera fairs.

Trudy, if you are printing 120 negs you will need a 75mm or 80mm enlarging lens to cover the larger negatives, you will need a 50mm lens for 35mm negs. though.

Never seen a Philips enlarger, just wondering if it is a 35mm only or can it be used for MF? You can probably pick up an 80mm lens from ebay.

I have a Philips enlarger, bought used many years ago. It is a well made piece of equipment, made in japan, presumably for, rather than by Philips.
With regard to negative holders, assuming the enlarger is similar to mine, various sizes were available to fit the carrier. The usual 35mm strip, 645 and 6x6 masks and also a 35mm slide carrier were all available, but I would imagine will be hard to find now. I had to order mine from Jessops, when they were worth patronising, and they took a while to arrive. I seem to remember Paterson were the distributor in the UK. The lamp used was a standard 150 watt ES enlarger type.
The lens mount has two positions, the position for smaller negatives holds the lens closer to the film, for larger formats, further away. For work with 120 films there was a larger condenser, that supplied with the machine being for 35mm etc. The model is PCS 130.

I will see if i can get hold of a carrier .... my lens is a screw in one ... ive got a philips pcs 1000 ...

If you just want something to get you started, I've got a perfectly serviceable 80mm Schneider Componar-S that I have no use for. (Came bundled with a used 5x4 enlarger that I bought a few years ago, but I already have a variety of good lenses for medium format.)
It won't be top notch, but it would do the job. No use to me, so I can bring it along to Brownsea next week if you want it. [FOC, of course - no selling allowed on these forums!]

2mm glass is standard picture framing glass a local framer will be able to supply this for you
