I am not sure that Scott Kelby is any better than the American presenters of the 'English' digitutor Nikon videos when it comes to pronouncing Nikon. It's a pity that we rarely get a native Japanese speaker pronouncing the word in material aimed at English speakers. The last time I worked before retirement I worked for a company that had been taken over by a Japanese company. I found that English badly pronounced by a Japanese person much less offensive than Engish being utterley butchered by any American; indeed Japanese English has a certain lilting charm. Digitutor for an English English audience would be much more agreeable if presented by an educated Japanese person.
Back to the subject Scott Kelby, and his old books, and his programme are best left in the USA where they came from.
I always thought it was pronounced Neekon?
Chris.
At the launch of the D3, in Tokyo, the president of Nikon stood up after dinner to make a speech, and ended it with a joke to the assembled journalists that went something like this:
'My thanks to all of you for travelling such a long way to see our new cameras, but please can I ask our American friends to pronounce our company 'Nikon*' not 'Nykon'.'
[embarassed laughter]
*as in 'Nik-on'
'My thanks to all of you for travelling such a long way to see our new cameras, but please can I ask our American friends to pronounce our company 'Nikon*' not 'Nykon'.'
