Re: Snowdonia etc

...........which of the above.....
Hi Vitruvius,

I don't know Northumberland or the Yorhshire Dales but I used to go to Snowdonia a lot (over 40 years ago) and I once lived on the edge of the Peak District. There are plenty of photographic possibilities in both but I can remember only too well how hard it rains in Snowdonia. You don't say whether you are a climber or hill-walker as well as a photographer. Getting off the road or well trodden footpaths does help in Snowdonia given the requisite knowledge and experience.

You don't mention the Lake District, which is also full of interest, with the same caveats as for Snowdonia.

I don't frequent the forum much so I'm not up on who's who I'm afraid. I think I end up with my foot in my mouth whatever I do! Still, at least I know where it is then

There is something special about photographing the Yorkshire Dales. The villages are beautiful, the plants are quite special the pattern of drystone walls and field barns allow you to practise composition to your heart's content and the karstic landscape (limestone to any rock philistines out there) makes for a huge range of photographic opportunities with the limestone pavements, waterfalls, sink holes, dry valleys etc etc.

All the places you list are great, but the Dales gives you, I think, the most variety.

Aye, they're all good, but of that lot I'd pick Northumberland. Not just because it's closest, although that helps.

IIRC, the hot female controller in CHiPs was called Barney. Mind, she was finctional, so not sure it counts. Either way, I am a man.

Re: SNOWDONIA, PEAK DISTRICT, YORKSHIRE DALES, NORTHUBERLAND

All are worthy but they are all very different.Snowdonia Is a 'harder' landscape; it is harsh. The lake district is pretty and has mountains in miniature; it is a 'friendly' landscape. The Yorkshire Dales are very green and the fells are flat and barren. The area is a dissected plateau. Northumberland is bleak but still beautiful. Don't forget County Durham and don't forget the North Yorkshire Moors.
I think that there is one attribute of these areas that you will hate. There are many places where you can't get a signal on most networks.
