Which Continuous Ink System for Epson R2400

I've had enough of cartridges and am looking to switch my R2400 to a Continuous Ink System, but which to go for ? Does anybody know any comparison reviews between the various CIS for an Epson R2400. Anybody have particular experience ?

There seems to be some price difference between them but colour accuracy is obviously the max issue. I'm looking at Permajet, Lyson, and MediaStreet.

Permajet was reviewed by Angela of AP and found to be OK, but colour fidelity was an slight issue, with the reds I believe?? AP may be able to help with back issues of the mag.

I have no personal experience, i always used Epson ink and still do for my Pro3800.

I looked at all of them for my 2400 and plumped for the Lyson. Very good colour indeed and excellent black and white. Well beyond good enough for club comps and exhibition. The supplied profiles are also very useful with more available when required.

I too have used the Lyson CSI and Lyson papers but with the Epson R1800. I would echo what 'parisian' says regarding the quality of the output. I created my own profiles and was entirely satisfied as long as I printed reasonably regularly. However, I had to stop using it with the R1800 after several of the nozzles dried up and no amount of head cleaning cycles cleared the problem. I had not printed with it for quite a few weeks when this happened. It may have been a one-off and the problem may not appear with the R2400 but I'm now using Epson inks exclusively in my replacement R2400. I couldn't get the heads clear on the R1800, but I haven't thrown it.

If you do go with a CIS then I suggest you print something regularly just to prevent the problem I had.

Head jet clogging may be an issue with the R2400. Mine had suffered from this on numerous occasions with real Epson ink. In the end it went back to them for a rebuild, but the problem returned. I gave up and bought the Pro3800, which so far has been OK.

Slightly off-topic, but since it's already been mentioned I have found head-clogging to be a problem with several Epson printers I've owned. That brand of printer seems to suffer from it more than HP or Canon, and I never used anything other than Epson cartridges. I now own a Canon printer and even after being stood for up to a week the ink still flows properly.

The good point I find with my i9950 is that it doesn't seem to suffer from clogging when left unused for lengthy periods of time. I only use original Canon ink however.

Head clogging is an interesting point. At the moment it probably gets used every few weeks and so far no problems. This is after I had to resort to a PermaJet head cleaning kit to get it going after being left for a few months.

I probably would be using it more frequently if I put a CIS on it as thats half the point, being able to use regularly without spending a fortune and swamping the planet with ink cartridges.

The Canon may use dye based ink and the Epsons are pigment ink. The pigment inks are more durable (fade resistant) but they have solids in suspension hence the risk of clogging. Running a head test print once a week will keep them clear.
