Brilliant, loved the "Take me Home". Lots of pictures from Bangladeshi Railways!

Some good sets there, but once again the Martin Parr stuff did nothing for me - why is he so highly regarded?

Finally got there - had to download Firefox, Safari doesn't seem to see the thing

I enjoyed the Parr stuff, which, following Chris's post is the only bit I've looked at so far. They're in the same vein as his classic book Small World. I guess the somewhat subversive nature appeals to me; in these examples, photographing photographers shooting the sites, instead of the sites themselves. It'd be like visiting somewhere like Yellowstone (or closer to home, Ashness Bridge or Glen Coe), and instead of (or in addition to) taking pictures of the usual suspects turn around and take pictures of the serried ranks of tourists snapping away at the faux wilderness.

Because he gets away with it, I think.

I think he's like marmite . . . . you either love him or hate him! HCB certainly belonged to the latter

I've been to a couple of his talks/book signings and have to say he's very entertaining - the bulk of the folk there would have been under 30 . . . . . in fact the only person there older than me would have been MP himself

Ah that would explain - it's because I'm an old fogey!

Which of course I am. I read Tim's explanation above and thought ... yes I understand all that but still don't see the point.

Each to their own I guess, it would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

Oh, and BTW, I love Marmite!

Tim, you've just reminded me of a photographer I met, maybe 10 years ago! I can't remember his name (no-one famous) but he was travelling around the various tourist sites in the UK photographing all the crud tourists leave behind . . . .

Something I think of doing round here from time to time (in alliance with a bin bag or two to pick up the garbage ejected by thoughtless/ignorant/arrogant motorists etc).

Parr's work, like a lot of modern photographers needs to be considered en masse as it were, rather than as individual pictures. Looked at in the traditional manner, I can easily see how the average person would wonder how he gets away with such mundane stuff.
