    'Professional' Slide conversion recommendations needed

    Hi all

    Hoping you can help me.

I have promised my mother that I will get her old mounted slides scanned for her, around 160 slides in total.

I am looking for recommendations for companies that can provide the service in the UK. Cost is obviously a factor but so is quality and service.

I am looking for decent sized scans for average print size, not huge posters. Am competent with photoshop so do not need dust/scratch removal etc. plain scan will be fine.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Peak Imaging are one possibility. They seem to have a good reputation.

Another possibility are BPD Phototech. These guys are used by the likes of Joe Cornish and I have personally seen the quality of their print output...

I don't think it's going to be cheap though...

I'd suggest you have the dust scratch removal (ICE or similar) done in the scanning process. You'd find 180 slides pretty time consuming to do in Photoshop.

Thanks for the replies so far gentlemen. I've been amassing a few websites in the meantime and have about 8 choices now; I still hope for some recommendations from experience though if anybody has them.

'Large Format' thanks for the ICE comment, it seems rather hard to get anybody to do the service without them using it actually! My suspicion was that mother was only going to want to use 10-20 of the slides anyway, hence doing them myself. My worry was that done incompetently it would lose me detail in the first instance. As ICE seems almost ubiquitous I will run with it.

Thanks again, anybody with further info please let me know.
