    Cokin Z Filter

    Hi all.

I have been using my wide angle COKIN P filter adapter with my P filter on my wide angle zoom lens with a 77mm front.

The 12-24mm zoom requires no less than 14-15mm to prevent the corners of the filters being seen in the pics.

Is this normal for a wide angle lens and P filters?

Would anyone recommend the COKIN Z filters.
Would this help the wide angle problem, or better still, eliminate it altogether.

    Kind regards
    Graham

    Re: Cokin Z Filter

You've probably reached about the limit of what the P series can cope with. According to the relevant Cokin page they seem to be intended for use with lenses in the 20-28mm range (35mm format) - which if you are using a crop frame SLR would about tie in with the 14-15mm limit you are seeing...

For wider angles and larger diameter lenses the choice is between the Z-Pro and X-Pro series. The Z series is probably all you need for ultra wide angle lenses on APS size sensors while the X-Pro may be a better bet for full frame and 35mm when using ultra-wide lenses. IIRC the X-Pro filters are also the same size as the Lee system...

It's the Cokin Z-Pro filters that are the same (100mm) width as the standard Lee filters....X-Pro filters are bigger but I suspect Lee do bigger ones too.
