    Where to go in Snowdonia

    Hi All

For our annual wedding anniversary/birthdays (all three fall in a 12 day period) break we're going to go to Snowdonia for me to take some pics. Does anyone have any recommendations, I'll be aiming for either end of the day for golden hour shots.

    Cheers
    Simon

We were planning on staying in a hotel there as it seems fairly central to everything. So hopefully I'll get some nice ones if the weather is right and I can get to grips with the new camera in time.

Have you got any pics I can look at, I just had a quick look at your galleries but couldn't see any from Snowdonia.

Pete's is always a good place to go to, not only for food but lots of local information.

I'm planning on going to Llanberis for a break in a few months time. We find it nice and central for touring the area.

Fantastic, was participating in a race for one of the days (Beddgelert Challenge). Very muddy, great fun and only had one accident where I skewered myself on the handlebars!

    Roman steps

I visited the area near the Roman Steps a couple of years ago and was impressed with the variety of subjects to photo. After the road from Llanbedr it turns into a single track road following the river with several waterfalls along it. There is the lake (Lyn Cwm Bychan) at the end where you can park and which is surrounded by mountains. The wooded area above the lake on the way to the steps is lovely with hummocks of moss, then you get onto the moorland and there is a little bridge over the stream. Then if you have any energy left go higher up onto the Roman Steps.

Unfortunately, all the time that I was there the low cloud completely hid the mountains, so I hope you have better luck.

I thinks it's May for me as well, so might see you there

It's also worth us all remembering that while the scenery is really beautiful around Snowdon it can also be deadly, as recent events have shown. If you're going climbing make sure you have the right kit and know what you're doing.

Re: Where to go in Snowdon

If weather is good and the sky is clear, late day head down the road from Capel Curig to Beddgelert, go past the right turn to Llanberis (which is another great scenic road past the bottom of Snowdon), you will be heading towards the sun and the sunsets can be great, number of places to park the car - if you time it right stunning images to be had - unfortunately I have still to get there on a good evening.

If you get to Beddgelert, walk along the footpath at the side of the river, side of Welsh Highland Railway (steam trains)- valley visited by lots of artists when the rhodendrums are out.

Lots lots more to see, 12 days is not enough.

Re: Where to go in Snowdonia

If you like waterfalls there's an excellent one, about 15 minutes walk from the snowdonia mountain railway base station in Llanberis.

It gets listed as both The Llanberis Waterfall and Ceunant Mawr Waterfall.

A sharp left hand turn just after the start of the track (once you leave the road) takes you along the river to the base of the falls. Stay on the main track and you reach a viewpoint (there's a crossing over the rail line to get to it)
