    Nikon Scan V Autofocus question

What is the procedure for scanning slides on the CoolScan V? Sorry if this is a dumb question but..... Do I need to click 'Autofocus' each time I insert a new slide?

I know that the machine automatically autofocuses on the first slide you put in, when you switch on.

However, on subsequent slides, I don't keep pressing autofocus, and I presume the preview doesn't adjust the focus (or does it?), so I can only assume that the machine is still focussed on the first slide that you inserted?

Is this correct? If so, then pressing autofocus, then preview and scan for each and every slide, seems rather laborious (I have hundreds of them!)

(The instructions don't make it clear BTW, hence my question)

Go to edit > preferences then select Preveiw settings and make sure the Auto focus box is ticked. This will ensure that it always autofocuses without having to press the autofocus button again, you then only need to use the autofocus button if you alter the focus point because it is on part of the image (eg blank sky/white wall) where it can not focus correctly and you are not satisfied with the focus point.

By the way I much prefere to use Vuescan with my Coolscan V rather than the Nikon software.
Keep on snapping and catch the moment if you can.

Thanks Craftysnapper. It appears to be already ticked. How does VueScan differ and is it free (or cheap?)
