    Dynax 5L focus problem...

    Hi all,

I got myself the other day a new BP-200 grip for my Dynax 5. The camera has been sitting around for a while as I find CR2 batteries a waste of money and I have been using mostly digital lately and got bored, so I decided to get myself a grip for my 5L to take it along with my 7D and shoot some film alongsider (which reminds me I got a handfull of film to develop). Now the problem is is that the camera has been stored I haven't touched it at all. I switched it on and the camera simply can't focus. It goes through the whole range and doesn't focus. I tried all my lenses and only when I put the 50 f1.7 it started to focus. I switched it off, switched it back on and it's doing the same thing again but now it only focusses very rarely with any of the lenses.

    So I got three questions:

1-Would the grip with NiMh batteries do it any harm or affect it, since the voltage is slightly lower (1.2v for NiMh batteries vs 1.5v for normal alkalines)? I'm guessing it shouldn't but you never now...

2-Is there any way of adjusting the AF on the Dynax 5 film cameras?

3-....I can't remember number 3... I'll be back with that one...

    Any help appreciated.
    Regards,

    Luis

Might be worth cleaning the camera contacts...

    PS

Probably worth doing the lens ones as well even if you have been using them.

I'd agree with Nigel, I'd also suggest you check through the cameras functions, in case there is something that needs to be set when using a grip, never had that with any of my cameras, but then they were all designed with control grips grips in mind, not just the additional battery grips.

I cleaned the camera contacts but not the lenses, I'll try that. I thought about the Custom Functions but I can't find the manual. And no3 was about the Custom Functions!

Thanks, I'll give it all a shot. Love that camera.

    Thanks Ron.

I tried all your suggestions to no avail. Maybe I should send it for repair or try and get another one?

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for that, but I am now thinking it may be cheaper to buy one off Ebay and keep this one for spares if needed. It's just weird that the camera went just like that.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Dynax 5L focus problem...

I got me self a Dynax 5 for £27 and is working fine and also...a Pentax MZ-30 with FG grip and 28-80 with UV filter for £40. I couldn't resist it, as FG grips don't come by easy and I used to have a MZ-30 which I loved but gave it to my brother when I got my Minolta 7D. So I got one again .
