Whats going wrong??

Hi,

Having just bought my first decent digital camera, a Fuji S100FS, I'm a little disapointed with the results.

When viewed 'actual size' on my pc they appear very grainy as though shot at very high ISO although I've used 200 during daylight outdoors.

I've also noticed that straight diagonal edges appear zigzagged when I've reduced the image size on the pc.

Before buying the s100fs I researched it fully and none of the review shots showed any of the problems i'm experiencing.

Is it me or the camera at fault? I hope its me!! Any advice will be appreciated in helping combat the above

What quality settings are you using on the camera?

What software (and process) are you using to resize the photos?

Sounds like its set to the smallest jpeg?

Hi,

I've put the noise down to out focus due to depth of field.

The zigzagging has gone now that i have used an old edition of photoshop elements.

Can you recommend any free software which would give better results than elements 2.0?

Camera was set to 10M Fine

If you are viewing your image at 33% or 67% of its size, it will introduce jagged edges/contours.

Try viewing you image at either (in %) 12.5, 25, 50, 100.

As for the noise, it may be caused by underexposure at the time of capture. If you tried to up the exposure (or adjusted curve upwards) in post-processing to compensate, it will introduce noise.
