Looks good. The pictures and the camera!

Panasonic has promised me one for a longer test in the new year, so I'll be trying out some Voigtlanders.

Will look forward to that. I've got a Novoflex adapter on order. Just need to get the camera sometime I guess.

The pressure is building, if only the price would drop sub £400.

I do think that the 4/3 adaptor is overpriced, in decency they should bundle one with the G1.

Much to my surprise that turned up today! Didn't expect it until next month at the earliest, so well done indeed both Novoflex and Speed Graphic.

Now, can I find a red G1 somewhere?

I got an ex-demo one from Jessops for £395... Keeping in mind the strength of the Euro and Yen against the pound, the next price move is likely to be up not down. This is the same as the harumphing over the Nikon D3x price. The moaners are mainly those who would pay in weak currencies like the GBP and USD.

As for whether the adapter should be bundled, hardly! I doubt the ability to run M glass on the camera was on Panasonic's radar. It would be nice to see a body-only option though.

Leica have definitely missed a trick here - they had their fingers burned with the Digilux 3 but this could have been an interesting offering for them.

You did well. We'll see what happens to the price but I may wait till Oly produce their version. As to the adaptor, I think you misunderstood me - I meant the MFT to 4/3 adaptor just so existing 4/3 users with 4/3 lenses would be encouraged to go for the G1. I certainly would not expect the Leica M adaptor to be given away by Panasonic.

I agree that Leica have missed a trick here - I wonder how much interest Voigtlander are showing behing the scenes. Their little wide primes seem almost tailor made for the G1.

I've now received the adapter and it's great to be able to focus M glass through the lens, the image as you focus a Noctilux (50mm/f1) is very interesting as the plane of focus moves through the subject area. All in all, this ia a very interesting camera.

Re: Pictures from the G1 wearing Leica and CV glass

My G1 arrived today, so I wasted no time (after charging the battery of course) in sticking a couple of my M lenses (28mm Summicron and 75mm Summicron) on it, followed by an old Nikon mount Vivitar Series One 90mm f/2.5 Macro using both the MFT/LEM and LEM/NIK adapters from Novoflex. Very pleased with the results, though I'll need to find some way of putting the camera on a tripod - my old Leitz ballhead isn't strong enough to keep the thing steady, and using it on an Arca Swiss B1 with a Kirk QR plate lashed on wasn't entirely successful either. The camera is simply too small to use as a lever for moving the head when needed. Despite the very obvious movement in the LCD when I touched the camera to take the pictures with the macro they came out pretty sharp. I might stick one up if I get time to do a bit of Lightrooming.

    G1 with Nikon mount glass

This is a very quickly Lightroomed (just a white balance adjustment and export as medium quality jpeg) test shot taken using Panasonic G1 plus Novoflex "Micro-four-thirds to Leica M" and "Leica M to Nikon" adapters. The lens is my old Vivitar Series One 90mm f/2.5 Macro (so 180mm FoV) stopped down to around f/8 (from memory). ISO was 200, shutter speed approximately 3 seconds. Focus was on the "2".

Although the G1 can greatly magnify the area being focused on, in this case (and another couple of shots I took with the same set up) it was extremely dark at taking aperture. This despite the screen automatically adjusting itself to the available light.

The camera was mounted on a tripod via my Arca Swiss B1, which has a quick-release top. I had to lash up a Kirk plate to the camera to do this. The set up wasn't entirely successful as the camera is too lightweight to act as a lever for adjusting the position of the head. Another head will probably be needed for stuff like this.

Perhaps Leica have an interest in something not yet on public display and actually has the shape of a traditional Leica.

Click the image of the insanely proportioned G1/f0.95 combo to get more images of and with interesting lenses (Japanese link).
