    Lumix dmc lx3 video error

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem with a bright white streak comming off various light sources and ruining any video shot ?

Its on the lcd screen the whole time under lighting but does not appear to come out in saved photos but most definitely comes out in the videos.

Does anyone know the technical term for this so that I can warn panasonic, it seems to be a widespread problem.

    Thanks

Do you mean something similar to the effect in the first picture in this link?

That is of course a still rather than a video frame, but possibly the cause is similar.

I just replied to this but it dissapeared ?

Yes thats exactly the problem, but mine is a lot brighter and bolder. Its clearly affected quite a few units judging by the videos ive been looking at in the last hour.

Not what I expected from Panasonic or indeed a modern imaging device.

IIRC the Leica light streaking had something to do with overload during the read-off from the sensor. Possibly something to do with the timings. Whether this is similar, who knows. It's pretty gross I agree.

Hopefully Mark Norton will read this thread. He may be able to recall that M8 problem and its cause.

    Thanks,

I posted on another forum and apart from a couple of mildly sympathetic replies the general concensus was - this is perfectly normal, perfectly exceptable, and the video function is only an add feature just accept it.

Apparently its the ccd sensor and they all do it, hmmmm i bet they dont all do it to that extent. Ive never had a camera that fills the lcd screen with light bars to the extent of completely distracting the photographer and renders the video function utterly useless under any form of artificial lighting.

Is it a good daytime camera ? Yes absolutely but thats all it is and should not be advertised as anything more or at least carry a warning.

Well, its back in its original packaging and been collected today.
