    New Toy!

I found a lovely No. 2 Box Brownie in Oxfam. At £8 (including what I expect is its original cloth case) it was an absolute bargain. All appears to be functional, the only 'problem' being that the finders are quite fogged. I just need to run a film through it to see what it can produce.

They are really good, and they come apart pretty easily too, so cleaning the finders is a doddle. When I first started on AP in the tech team I tested a No.2 against the latest Kodak digital compact camera to see where the company had come in all those years.

I don't have to tell you what won.

Let's see the results once you get a roll through.

I remember that piece with much amusement Damien. As you said, a cardboard box beat the digital wonder!

A quick play reveals that a loupe over the finder makes it clear enough for framing purposes. Can't quite make out the AF points though...

I'm looking forward to this weekend, I have to say.

You did! You got to be Editor

Is it about time the test was redone with the latest Kodak camera? Perhaps the results would be even worse for the digital?

I think it would be fun, though the quality of Kodak cameras has improved somewhat since. There is still an interesting point about 'photography for the masses' and how easy it is and what they get for their efforts.

I'll put that on the list of articles I'd love to write but know I'll not ever get round to.

hows about a group test...say a classic camera from each manufacturer against their latest digital offering...e.g., a Pentax Spotmatic vs KM...

But where's the digital offering there? The KM was one of the first wave of K-mount Pentaxes, along with the K2, KX and K1000...

(Yeah, I know you mean the K-m. )

I'd say the Spottie would win - just screw one of these little beauties on and snap away..

All the photos I shot for my degree show were on a Spotmatic. And this was may favourite lens
