Statement from IPC Digital re: slow forums

I have just received this from our web team:

    Dear forum user

Firstly we would like to apologise for the poor level of service you have
been experiencing for several months on the AP forums. The outages and
slow performance are extremely frustrating for all and often hit our
most frequent and loyal users hardest.

We are very concerned about the problems and have been working behind the
scenes throughout the year to address them. This week we are undertaking
some major database work across our forums which we hope will ease the
problems in the short term. However, it's clear we need to replace the
    current forum setup.

As a matter of urgency we plan to deploy a stable, fast and
full-featured forum platform for AP. We will be working on this
migration over the next few weeks. During this complex migration we aim
to maintain important features such as existing posts and personal
    profiles (eg number of posts).

As this project progresses we plan to bring you further updates and more
specific timings, but in the meantime please bear with us.

    Kind regards

    IPC Digital team

That's great news - I was beginning to think we were bashing our collective heads against the proverbial brick wall!!

Very good news. These problems hit the most popular sites hardest.

...it's clear we need to replace the current forum setup.
Do we get to make a wish list then? I'd love a forum that remembered what threads i had contributed to so I didn't need to add them to my 'favourites' to be sure of following the conversation.

..we aim to maintain important features such as existing posts and personal profiles
They 'aim' to keep existing posts and profiles, er yes please!! Actually, we might not realise it now since the forums are quite lively and occassionally off-topic but these posts represent an important archive for the future and AP, with its long history, should recognise that and really be insisting that they don't get scrapped!!!

I can quite imagine the systems admins not clocking the cultural value of all these bits and bytes they are 'aiming' to maintain!!

Good to hear, and thanks to all concerned.

Would it be out of place to suggest a model along the lines of the Leica User Forum, Rangefinder Forum, and GetDPI Forums? I find these easy to navigate and use.
