    POLL - Going solo?

This week we have a supplement about things to do with your pictures - such as making books, building a website and having an exhibition. We all take loads of pictures, but what do you do with them once they are perfected?

It made me wonder whether our readers dream of having an exhibition, publishing a book or getting into National Geographic. So the poll is about whether having a solo exhibition is one of your ambitions.

You may have done it already - so share your experiences with us all. How did it go, and how did you choose the pictures?

Head to the home page to let us know: Is having a solo exhibition one of your ambitions?

    Thanks for taking part.

I voted for "Done it" but would've voted for "Done it and want to do it again"

An Exhibition of Photos of course!

    Re: POLL - Going solo?

If the performance of this site gets much worse, putting pics up here will be a solitary occupation, if not a solo exhibition...

Nope, not one of my ambitions, although I'm not against it either - it's something I might want to do someday.

I have exhibited my photography three times now, but only once made any profit (about £10 after costs!)

My last one was at a pub near Tower Bridge that used to have an exhibition wall. I had (I think) 30 prints mounted. Various themes from Architecture through to Nature. That's the venue I made a profit from! Unfortunately they no longer hold exhibitions there.

I have a contact at a relatively big gallery in London who has seen my work and has already said yes to having an exhibition there. But I can't afford it at the moment.

I've done it a couple of times as a solo show (fnarr, fnarr!!) and been involved in a few more as part of a group. There's no way you can't call me an exhibitionist.

Don't think I've ever shot something to put on a wall....maybe I should try it! (not a public exhibition....just printing some pics would be a start for me)

Yep having an exhibition is ambition, I probably would not go solo as my partner is also a photographer and something we would like to do jointly.

I co own a forum and a few of us got together and did an exhibition, so from that experience I know it's a lot of hard work and there was not monetry gain. But we all enjoyed ourselves immensly and it's great to see your work hanging on a wall and enjoyed by those who visit the venue.

    Re: POLL - Going solo?

I've had several exhibitions where the all exhibits were my work but they, as photographs, were not the object of the show. At the time I worked in education and the photographs were of kids doing amazing stuff with technology. The exhibitions were to promote various government education initiatives.

    Sort of counts I suppose

    Re: POLL - Going solo?

I compiled a set of photographs and had 10 copies printed by My Publisher, for various friends. Pleasantly surprised by the image and printing quality, though I did find the layouts a bit limited and I also felt the amount of 'white space' was excessive.

One observation I would like to make is that most of these 'Publishing' websites is that they do not specify the physical sizes (in pixels or mm and DPI ) of the various printing areas (so you can tailor the image you are sending.) It just seems that this side of things is too haphazard and vague to my liking!

I wouldn't at the moment, but I do like browsing at photos, so, if my photos ever reach a standard that I feel people would enjoy, I think i would then...I have a long way to go...

I've often made an exhibition of myself, but I can't say that it was ever an ambition, it's just the way things turn out sometimes.

I voted 'yes' and, hopefully, I might achieve this particular ambition in a few weeks time as I am currently enrolled on a 10/12 week photojournalism course culminating in our work being exhibited locally

I would love to be able to do this in the future - though first I will have to get some shots really worth printing and displaying - and then work out this printing thing (its very hit and miss - worst is when you have to wait a whole day for orders to appear cause you don't own your own printer )

No. My ambition is to be recognised and respected for who I am and not just as a sex object.

    Re: POLL - Going solo?

An 'artist' friend of mine keeps trying to interest me in an exhibition, but I don't have any coherent themes as I just take pictures of things and places that I come across.
Perhaps one day, but I doubt it.

Why do you need a coherent theme?
