Boer Wars - monuments, statues, memorials etc

I'm in the very early stages of a mini project about the Boer wars, and was hoping I could get some ideas from you all. I'm aware of some sites (such as the two prominent ones in Edinburgh) relating to the fallen of the Boer Wars, but I'm looking to try to find more locations and information on the subject.

I'll start with Scotland and the North of England - can anyone point me in a suitable direction? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

If you are heading through Newcastle at any time on the project, there is a Boer War memorial on the Old Durham Road as it runs through Gateshead, it's on the side of the road opposite the Somerfield store in Low Fell.

Probably not much help to you but I live literally a few yards from a memorial to John (Williams) Fielding who was awarded the VC. Although I may be getting my wars wrong, he was at Rourkes Drift.

The memorial is in south Wales also his grave is in the church grounds at the end of our road.

    Cheers

I don't know whether my great grandad was any good at history or not, but apparently he was present at the Siege of Mafeking.

The best known monument to the Boer War is surely the "Kop End" at Anfield Stadium, named after the battle at Spion Kop.

And was there much Relief when he left?

It's amazing how many similar stands are known as Spion Kop - a list - it's amazing that there's even a Kop (de Boulonge) in Paris.

There's a statue of Sir Redvers Buller near the centre of Exeter - and a pub named after him in Crediton (it's a Wetherspoons pub). PM me if you want to know more (I appreciate that it's a little out of your local area!!!)

If your research ever brings you to the home counties Coombe Hill, Wendover has a monument on its summit to Buckinghamshire's fallen of the Boer War erected in 1905.

Going back to the "lame claim to fame" thread...

I used to work with the grand-daughter of the man who did the lettering on that monument!

I have just discovered that there is a memorial to the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders Boer war campaign on the esplanade of Stirling Castle.
