Blues outnumbering the reds so far by about 18 to 13, and some really top-class entries jostling for the winning post this time around.

That's all very well but what does Ken Rockwell have to say on the matter?

    Monthly Themes

Does anyone know, or can anyone guess, when the Monthly Photo Comp Themes 2009 will be available?

I usually need six months to think about it

(Sits back and waits for someone to say "April")
    Meanwhile, what about socialism.....?

Well, what I would suggest would be for Tharg to come up with a theme for January sometime in December so we can think about it. Then the winner of the December round to come up with a theme for February but not be able to take part themselves in that month - January's winner would submit the theme for March but not be able to take part for that month etc. and so on.

    What do others think?

I'm not a fan of that idea. I'd much rather have the themes announced at the start of the year to give all the opportunity to think about their entry and create something. So far this year I don't think we've had anyone winning in two months running so I don't see any reason to exclude winners from the next round either.

Fair enough - it was an idea to throw into the pot. The exclusion bit was to stop folks throwing a theme in they feel they can excel in plus maybe they can help Tharg pick the next winners (see how his mind works in how to pick out the best and maybe learn how to see their own work in a different way).

Anyways - maybe have a separate topic on this?

But don't get into a Paddy over it!

I do not like the idea of short notice just one month in advance, not conducive to getting the best images IMHO.

I do not yet know of anyone in this world who has managed to fathom out how a judges mind works, I'm not able to and I have encountered plenty of them.

    Re: Rice

I think Peter Cook summed up judges pretty well when he declared: "All in all I'd rather have been a judge than a miner. And what's more, being a miner, as soon as you are too old and tired and sick and stupid to do the job properly you have to go. Well, the very opposite applies with judges."

The quality, and quantity of photographs seem to have stepped up a notch lately on AP compared to some other monthly entries. Some cracking stuff here.
Don't have a camera at the moment so couldn't shoot anything new, hope my pic qualifies as having one dominant colour, don't think I've anything else worth entering

Hmmmmm! I see from (Siuya - aka Chris's) new photo, that he's been consorting with Elton John. Ooooh, and very nice it is too! (Imaginative and creative without doubt. Well done)

    Red Hot!

Thanks Mick for your kind words

I stuck a pic in that I thought met the brief but was unhappy with it (too dull). I have spent a fair bit of time since then trying to find something a bit more interesting - lets hope I've succeeded
