    Highland Wildlife Park-Amur tigers arrive.

Amur tigers arrived at the Highland Wildlife Park today. The park is at Kincraig near Kingussie and very well worth a visit - plenty of opportunities to photograph a wide variety of species in surroundings that are as natural as possible.

This was on the News yesterday but we can't believe it until you post some images Jennie

The tigers were the ones in Edinburgh Zoo, weren't they?

Yes they were and they have raised cubs in Edinburgh-they are hoping they will breed successfully up at Kingussie as well. How did you guess? -I am up in the Boat of Garten for 2 weeks on Nov 1st so I am planning at least 2 days at the park and I am bursting to get some good shots of the tigers as well as the other wildlife. I have been there before and its a great place. Tanking it down here today-again!!!!!

Hmmm, just seen this. I'm in Dundee at the end of next week for a few days... are the tigers still around? May make a good contrast with the Montrose Air Museum

    Christopher,

If you are in Montrose and enjoy wildlife you have to visit Montrose Basin

The tigers are very much still there:its their home now. You can see one of them on my flickr Module 9 set. They are beautiful, well worth a visit and there's loads more to see there as well. I will make a trip to the Montrose Basin to see what there is to see -what should I look out for??

    Hi Jennie,

The main wildlife there are the birds - although most of the wintering-geese may have departed by now - but there should still be lots to see. Check the SWT website 'afore ye gan.

Thanks. I have had a look at the website and as soon as the grey clouds and endless rain go away I will make a trip to Montrose, its not far up the road. Just drying out from golf at Edzell-it was cold too!

It was certainly cold today in Aberdeen.

You were only a short trip from Montrose at Edzell - how was your round?

BTW - I love the gardens at Edzell Castle

The round was cold and wet AND windy but the company was good. The match was a draw and the food was excellent. I will definitely visit the gorge and Montrose once/if summer arrives. Thanks very much for the location tips: appreciated
Have you been to the Hermitage at Dunkeld? Cathedral and Birnam are also worth a visit-its great to live in such a beautiful country isnt it?

'The Hermitage' is one of my favourite places, so very peaceful.

Up the A9 to The Falls of Bruar, another enchanting place - just don't let the Missus near the House of Bruar - The 'arrods of the North

BUT the House of Bruar is a very necessary visit for my regular "fix". I love looking round and "wishing"! Not so bad at sale time if you have strong elbows.
Still chucking it down in Blairgowrie!! I have cleaned out the understairs cupboard!!!! Must be desperate.

Baby Amur Tiger cubs at the Highland Wildlife Park

    Hi there,
I read this set. I had been covering an assignment, and noticed a TV news van going up to the Highland Wildlife Park, followed it up and in, and sat down in front of the glass where the new Amur cubs live, just before the scrum i sat in the mud and got the lens up to the glass after a wee clean (Childrens paws etc on the enclosure, chocolate and other food...) took some pics of the cubs and their mother, what a lovely sight!

All shots here on Flickr and my fav is this one

A must see, its really dark in the enclosure, but over the next few days the cubs will be going outside no doubt to see the outside world, one has been already with the mother.

    Enjoy!

Photos of the Bactrian Camels now uploaded to Flickr, the exclusives have been taken and removed from Flickr, but these ones are still up before any others are picked off:

Re: Baby Amur Tiger cubs at the Highland Wildlife Park

We were up in Aviemore 2 weeks ago and visited the park. Although the Tigers were great we were very disappointed with the park compared to our last visit 2 years ago. I remember the park's philosophy was to reproduce, as far as was practicable, the environment (flora) and species that would have been around there in the past.

This year the main enclosure was practically empty, some species having been moved because of an outbreak of ragwort?? The pack of Wolves had been reduced to just a couple and moved from their old enclosure that offered fantastic photo possibilities into a much smaller one that you had to view through fencing. What's more the old Wolves enclosure was being prepared for a Polar Bear(s). I guess Polar Bears will bring in more punters. Seems like they have compromised on their original aims.
    Cheers, Norman
