    October, 2008 - FirstView Pictures

This thread is for posting of FirstView pictures for the 1st of October, 2008. Please read the main About FirstView post, if you have not done so already. You may post only one image here, and it must have been taken on the 1st of October, 2008. Please remember to include the basic details - time and place of shooting, and what we're looking at. If you want to put in a short paragraph explaining what's going on, or why you chose that one, or whatever, then please do, but keep it brief and relevant. Any discussion beyond that can go in the 'Comments' thread. Please do not post comments or other replies here - they will be deleted. This thread is for FirstView image posting only.

The picture thread will remain open for a few days in the first instance, so please try to get your contributions in promptly. People who are perhaps away from home, or need time for film processing, or are otherwise unable to post their images in the initial time slot should pm me - I'll re-open the thread later in the month for late additions. In all cases please remember that the forum image posting rules apply (see the 'POSTING IMAGES' sticky post, which can be found in the Appraisal Gallery).

Finally, once again I would like to draw your attention to the new FirstView Gallery site - we would like as many contributors as possible to make use of this for hosting their FirstView images in order to maintain as complete an archive as possible for the future. Of course if you prefer not to you are still welcome to contribute to the FirstView threads with images hosted elsewhere.

    Icy Box

I took delivery of an external IDE drive housing yesterday, so I could finally mount a disk from my old machine on the new one. It has all my digital images on it - sorted, graded, tweaked raw files, and so on, so I wanted those files rather than just to restore them from back-up. Anyway, This picture was of the drive's blazing access light as it was toiling away, furiously transferring about 30GB of files from my Tokyo trip last year onto the internal drive - I've been waiting for months to get working on them again. Anyway, it's going to be a long day - a long few weeks, probably - and the staggeringly bright blue light grabbed my attention before the hard slog begins.

    Re: Icy Box

Powered up the computer this morning, only to have my cat plonk himself in front of the monitor screen and start pawing at the cursor. To distract him, I scrunched some paper into a ball and threw it on the floor.

Being a cat, he immeadietly "lost" it under a bookcase....

Taken in my back garden - It's a Chinese ornamental tree with just such fantastic colours and making up for last year when it didn't have any berries.

    Boxes, boxes, boxes!!

Sorting the office out and getting all the boxes together, wondering if I really need to keep them.

We got loads of these things! Darlington must have the highest number of Pizza places in the country, seems there's always a new one opening up somewhere!

I walk past this ASDA in Harrogate everyday. This reflection caught my eye this morning.

    Bin Day

Wednesday is bin day, the walk to the station becomes a slalom. Difficult enough carrying just a laptop bag, I would think impossible with a buggy or wheel chair.

Finally, on a bright and blustery day, I'm able to get back out on my bike having recovered enough from my crash 6 weeks ago.

Someone bought me these Lavenders a few days ago for a 'big' birthday. Got round to planting them today.

Been a few of these going up around here lately. A local taxi driver told me they have mobile cctv in the area. Taxi drivers know everything.
My little G9, I love that camera
