Minolta 7D Internal battery...

A little bird told me (over the internet, yup little birds on the internet, where else), that my 7D problems may be in great part due to the internal battery of the 7D having died out.

Which makes sense if you think about it. My feelings that the mapping feature is not mapping the dead/stuck pixels anymore (I guess it needs to keep the location of the pixels in memory?), it doesn't hold time and date anymore (this is very indicative of that problem).... as I said in the very beggining right on my first post about my beloved camera, the whole bunch of problems were very sudden and all came at the same time. The only other problem is that getting this fixed, still means I need to send it off for repair as the battery is soldered to the PCB.

What do you guys think?Is it possible that this is it? Does it make any sense? I am really reluctant to let it go just like that...

The fact that it won't remember date and time when the main battery is removed would certainly suggest that the internal battery is knackered. I guess if the data for the pixel mapping is not stored in an EEPROM or similar non-volatile memory it would get lost. Of course if this is the case then not only would the battery need replacing but the sensor would need to be pixel mapped again...

I do wonder whether, if the sensor has so many hot/stuck/dead pixels it needs mapping, any money spent on it that might be better spent on a replacement...

An annoying feature that may be of value in systems where internal maintenance of power supply is vital in the event of an external failure but is it really necessary in a camera? Both my Canon's have a user replaceable secondary battery.

It's about 20 odd stuck/dead pixels. They weren't there and suddenly one day KABOOOM! one here one there...

Yes find that annoying too, perhaps done in purpose to force the user to upgrade after some time (when Minolta didn't foresee any problems for them).

The problem I have is that I really really like the camera and it still works, just don't take it below 1/30s among other things...
