Surfing in the Rain – Views from Trevose Head, Cornwall (10<100kb)

I was all ready to do several posts on different groups of pics & then thought it would bore you, so to save you the pain I have bunged a selection of the best into a single post... I recently had a week at Trevose Head near Padstow, these are a very small selection of the images.

1 - This was one of 3 sunsets I managed in the week - This is taken from the very end of the Trevose headland - about 5 minutes after this the heavens opened & I was drenched.

2 - Another sunset – taken from Booby’s Bay looking across to Trevose

I was experimenting with my 400 f5.6L – these are a couple of the various Sparrows in the area. I did plenty of other species but these were the best of the bunch.

3 Just to show it was not just me who was getting wet... The deep blue backdrop is from a caravan awning!!!

4 small fluffy on a wire...

    5 a nice pair...

Had a try at some surfing shots, these were all taken at Booby’s Bay, again with the 400 this time with a polar filter to add a bit of punch...

6 - nice turn, just to show the sun did shine!!

7 – yet another turn... ISO 400 aperture set to f4.5 shutter was above 1/2,000"

8 - it was a great day & the polar really did make a big difference…

Finally I did a whole set of macro pics, here are only two...
    9 - A nice bee...

10 - a common blue... I really liked the background of this one…

So there you go, a week of pictures in one post. I did manage to capture a couple of the local seals, but they were not particularly photogenic - they were bobbing around with just their noses sticking out the water. I have an interesting picture of a basking sun fish, this was about 3ft across & total monster, but it was not particularly inspiring, as all you can see is its large flipper. I did miss the pod of dolphins that were playing in the area of the life boat station when I was having a swim - I have just found another 300 landscapes from the trip – ho hum, back to Aperture I go...
I am more than happy to share some more if people are interested!

Thanks Fen – it was nice to have a variety of subjects to work with. I was trying a new ND4 filter which I picked up for around £7 from 7 Day Shop, it was great to add some movement into the sea – this was from the third sunset...

Nig - I did three good ones of that first picture, I really struggled to say which I liked the best - Here are the others...

This was the last with some extra foreground

Numbers one and two are great, but is it possible to process a bit more light and sparkle into the foregrounds?

I have done just that, I think it may be a slight problem with the shrinking combined with I think my monitor is showing a bit bright, I will look again when I get back to work tomorrow - Here is one of the reworked, I think I agree I like it lighter as well...

Hi James, I thought of you when I was doing these, I left the above pic out as I was not happy with only having the back of the head - it is like this one...

Which I thought was really dynamic, but you are the expert on these things, so I will bow to your superior knowledge!

How about this one, reminded me of being in the washing machine!!!

Well when i go for surf shots i look out for the peek position of the trick and the ones that don't look towards you are pretty much peak position. I like them. With the washing machine image, very messy also with the water looking merky.

Possibly could have had something to do with that it was p***ing down with rain at the time & the sky was dark… Here was another of those classic shots – “parting is such sweat sorrow!!!”

This was from the sunny day...

Just to put these in context...

Just done the landscapes, this really shows the location

Towards Trevose - Booby's Bay at 3/4 tide - running out of beach!

Low tide - showing one of the wonderful rock pools...

Low tide - a couple out surfing... In the distance are Porthcothan, Mawgan Porth, Bedruthan Steps, Watergate Bay & finally Newquay.

From Trevose Head - This is nice as it shows both Booby’s Bay & Constantine Bay which is another great surfing beach… This small headland is well worth a visit as it actually has 7 different bays, all offering slightly different conditions & features.

Fantastic pictures, really inspired me, I am staying at Mother Iveys next week and I have a new camera to play with. Now I have seen your latest pictures - I can't wait.

Hi Tick - All the bird pictures were taken at the corner of Mother Ivey’s & Cataclews Quarry, I hope you have a really great time & the weather is kind - I look forward to seeing the pictures.

Here are a couple more, another little fluffy...

The area is full of House Martins(?) at the moment, filling up before they go for the long haul off to Africa – they all seemed to be on turbo boost & zooming all over the place, this was a bit of fun & I actually was able to get one in flight...
