    Re: Tonight I ...

I've just been diagnosed as diabetic.
I'm presuming type 2, Bob, as long as you are careful and occasionally give yourself a treat of Toblerone and reduce some other equivalent carbohydrate intake you should be OK.
Sorry to hear that Bawbee, being rather partial to chocolate myself I can sympathise with you. Hopefully you'll be able to have the odd treat now and then though.
Thanks for your concerns guys. It is type 2 Ron and, as far as I know, it's not as bad as type 1. I suppose getting older does not come without some parts failing and others wearing away.

The doctor told me the day before we left on holiday and I was good for two whole weeks - truly.

I am supposed to have read up some info at Diabetes UK but I'll do it at the weekend. I have to have my eyes scanned on Monday morning and see the doctor in the afternoon - a whole day off work (expensive thing this diabetes).

No type 2 isn't as bad as type 1 (insulin injections and diet), I'm presuming you're on tablets and a 'healthy eating' regime.

Sounds like a Retinopathy check, mines Monday afternoon!

The only benefit I can think of is that you'll never pay for another prescription (you need to get a prescription exemption certificate through your Doctor)

Yes there is some very good info at Diabetes UK (previously the BDA)

Not as yet, seeing the Doc on Monday PM and no doubt it'll be a bit of 'advice'.

Aye, that's the thing - I take care of the one good eye that I have, wouldn't want to lose the sight in that one. I've planned to take the day off because I'll probably get the drops to give max aperture.

They're soon to be 'free' up here anyway - prescriptions

I take it that you are a 'sufferer' too Ron?

I wouldn't call it a sufferer more adapter but, yes type 1 for over 45 years, so more injections than 'Hot Dinners' scenario approx 48,000 so far and counting
