Some photojournalism -- Anatomy of police takedown [ 12@80(ish)K ]

The first two(2) shots are from the bus and, for the rest, I got brave and
    got off the bus

I find the placement of the police officer (in the first two pics) particularily, interesting

Cheers and, as usual, critiques, complaint, etc.... more than welcome

A cracking sequence Jack. Unfortunately the NYPD (North Yorkshire Police Department) rarely have anything so dramatic to photograph.

I find the placement of the police officer (in the first two pics) particularily, interesting
They do look to be follow the 'cop show' mentality. I presume that they were pretty sure that the 'perp' wasn't going to start firing in their direction, if not then any idiot who hides behind a pane of galls or a windscreen deservces to be taken out of the gene pool.

As an aside, I saw an interesting programme once where they explained that no matter how recently a US officer had had firearms training they were far more likely to enter a crime scene in the mode of a cop shop cop i.e. arm bent at 90 degrees and gun pointing upwards rather than the much safer police procedure of arms outstretched, gun facing forwards. Shows the power of TV culture.

It is a fine sequence, Jack. In picture 1, my eye was immediately drawn to the 'don't walk' red hand. It seems very appropriate.
On a complete tangent, it does look to have been a particularly nice day in the fair city of Vancouver. You lucky people.
    Mike.
That's all very well but what does Ken Rockwell have to say on the matter?

    Hi N_N,

Thanks ... very much appreciated and the scary part is that the 911/999 call that started all this
was for two(2) males with rifles in an alley ...so they knew of the possible consequences and I don't
what is scarier: hiding behind a glass window or the fact that the general public had less cover
    than the police officer
Also, all the VPD officers had two(2) hands on their firearms and there was definitely not any "TV
Cop" mentality or actions ..... well, other than when the Sgt. in charge did his "that's a wrap" bit
in: This Video Clip at approximately 1:56 (+/-) of the clip .... definitely par for the course for him He's the guy when I commented
on the good haul, his reply was: "and you ask me why I don't like day shift"

    Cheers and thanks again,

    Jack

    Hi Mike,

Thanks very much and I noticed the "don't walk" sign and thought it quite appropriate and
I, also, noticed the little dog in the basket looking at me with a kind of "don't look at me for help"
    expression

And, yep, the weather (here) has been a welcome change from June (or Junuary as we were calling it)
and visitors from the UK are enjoying the "warmer" weather and our visitors from the (southern) United
States are enjoying our "cooler" weather

    Cheers and thanks again,

    Jack

Good set of shots Jack. Nice to see they weren't too trigger happy!

Errr Jack, take a look at the video again, around 42 seconds in, looks to me like an office resting the pump action shot gun in the crook of his arm. I wouldn't have like to have guess where that might have recoiled to had he fired it like that!!

Gadzooks ... right you are N_N but here is a shot where he played by the rules:

Granted, I have a photo of him carrying around the shotgun with just one hand

    Cheers,

Thanks very much Bob and whilst I am in the right
place for some events I missed one yesterday -- underground
fire which blew a breaker and put the majority of downtown
Vancouver in the dark, so to speak, -- but got some of the
after effects. I missed the explosion/fire and all the smoke and firefighters without power, there were no traffic lights so the Traffic police came out and this is what I got:

Ah well, ya win some, ya lose some

    Cheers,

    Jack
