    Letter Boxes

I've just walked out to post some letters and noticed that the plaque that used to tell me about collection days and times has been removed.

Now I have no idea when, or even if, my letter will be collected.

I assume that it's so that the PO can't be held accountable for their 'promises'.

When did it happen? Is it the same around your way?

    Re: Letter Boxes

My local Post Office no longer has a postbox ever since the shop had a refit and new shop front. The post box used to be embeded in the wall but it was never put back
Vague promises of a replacement have been made but they say they can`t find a place to put it!!How crazy is that?

Probably the postie packed his "Monday" plaques then remembered that it was Bank Holiday.

On my local post box the plaque is sometimes not updated, sometimes missing, sometimes OK. Letters seem to get collected irrespective, except Sundays & bank holidays. I think there was a time a couple of years ago when the plaques were removed "permanently" but people started complaining & they re-introduced them.

I didn't mean the removable, changeable, ones that the postman changes on each collection (which BTW are stored inside the box) but the fixed ones giving general information.

    Re: Letter Boxes

All our local boxes were fixed with the yellow notice of removal stickers about 2 years back until everyone complained. Since then the post gets collected as-and-when. The signs never mean anything as often the guy gets stuck in traffic or he's the only one collecting the post.

If the government want the postal services privatised they shoudl just do it and stop faffing around. Come to think of it, we havent had a proper "service" down here for a while - too expensive, threats of closure, massive queues at the local PO....
